About us
Fixing Melbourne’s
appliances since 1978
A family-owned repair shop in Chadstone — with a real shopfront, technicians you’ll know by name, and a habit of telling people the truth about their appliance.
Our story
One family, one trade,
forty-eight years.
SMS Electronics started in 1978 as a one-man appliance repair business working out of a van across Melbourne’s east. It grew the slow way — one repair, one recommendation at a time — until it earned a shopfront at 271 Huntingdale Rd in Chadstone.
Not much about the job has changed since. We still answer the phone ourselves. We still quote before we start. And we still tell people when an appliance isn’t worth repairing, even though the easy money is in saying the opposite. That last one is the thing our customers mention most in their reviews, and it’s the reason the business is still here.
Steve and Andrew run the workshop today, having taken the business on from family. They’re the ones who’ll answer your call or turn up at your place — and if you’ve read our reviews, you’ve already met them.

What you’re actually getting
What “honest advice”
means in practice
It’s an easy thing to claim on a website, so here is exactly what it means when you call us.
We quote before we start
You get the price before any work begins — not after. If the diagnosis changes what it’ll cost, we stop and ring you rather than pressing on.
We’ll talk you out of it
If the repair costs more than the appliance is worth, we say so. We lose the job and keep the customer — which, over forty-eight years, has turned out to be the better trade.
12 months on every repair
Every repair carries a 12-month warranty covering both parts and labour — the components we fit and the work we do to fit them. If the same fault comes back inside twelve months, we come back too.
Why locals call us
A real shop.
Not just a van.
Drop your appliance in to 271 Huntingdale Rd, Chadstone, or we’ll come to you. A real shopfront means we’re here when you need us — and we’ll still be here next year.
Brighton to Ringwood, Doncaster to Dandenong — see the 118 suburbs we cover.
- Straight answers before you spend a cent. If it’s not worth fixing, we say so.
- 12-month warranty on every repair we do.
- You approve the price before any work starts — no call-out surprises.

Who we work for
Households, agencies
and government.
Most of our work is domestic — someone’s oven died the week before Christmas, or the washing machine has started walking across the laundry floor.
Alongside that we do ongoing repair work for real estate agencies managing rental properties, and for government departments. That work is won on being reliable and documented rather than cheap, and it’s a reasonable signal for a homeowner deciding who to trust with a callout.
Property managers
Tenanted properties need a repairer who turns up when they say they will and invoices clearly. If you manage rentals across Melbourne’s east, call and ask about ongoing work.
Same number as everyone else — there’s no separate trade line to chase, and you’ll get the technician rather than an account manager.
What locals say
We don’t write our own reviews
Every one of these is on our Google profile, under our name, where anyone can check it.
