This page explains what happens to your personal information when you use this website or get in touch. It is written in plain English rather than legal boilerplate, because the honest version is short.
What we collect
If you fill in the contact form, we collect the name, email address, phone number and message you type into it.
If you ring us or come into the shop, we take whatever we need to do the job: your name, address, phone number, and what is wrong with the appliance.
Our web host keeps standard server logs, and our security plugin records IP addresses involved in suspicious activity. That is ordinary for any website and is used to keep it running and secure.
We also use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people actually read, so we know what is worth keeping. It records things like which pages you looked at, roughly which city you are in, and whether you tapped the phone number or sent the contact form. It does not record your name, and we have not switched on the settings that try to identify you personally or follow you across other websites.
What we do with it
We use it to answer you and to do the work. That is the whole purpose.
We do not sell your details, rent them, or pass them to marketing companies, and we do not send marketing emails. We share them only where the repair genuinely requires it — ordering a part for your machine, for instance — or where the law requires it.
Other companies’ content on this site
Three parts of this website load content from elsewhere, which means those companies may see your IP address:
- Google Maps — the map on our contact page is embedded from Google.
- Google Analytics — counts visits to the site, as described above.
- Trustindex — the review carousel showing our Google reviews is served by Trustindex.
All three are covered by their own privacy policies rather than this one.
How long we keep it
Enquiries stay in our email while the job is live and for a reasonable period afterwards, in case you come back to us about the same repair. Job records are kept as long as we need them for warranty and tax purposes.
Keeping it safe
The site runs over HTTPS, so anything you type into the form is encrypted on its way to us. Access to the website and to our email is limited to the people who run the business.
Your choices
You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Ring (03) 9888 1511 or email contact@smselectronics.com.au and we will sort it out.
If you would rather nothing was recorded at all, ring us instead of using the form.
